The Senior Policy Adviser/Policy Adviser provides analysis and advice to shape policy development for the Falkland Islands Government (FIG). This work, undertaken on behalf of elected officials, senior government officers, and client departments, will cover a diverse range of topic areas including health and social care, education, public safety, emergency services, human resources, culture, recreation and other matters of national interest.

The Role

The role involves working closely with FIG Directorates and providing advice and support on the development of policy options and recommendations. This includes recommending and conducting primary and secondary research as required, identifying best practices in other jurisdictions and analysing alternatives to recommend fit-for-Falklands solutions.

The post-holder works on agreed policy development initiatives, and undertakes analysis, policy design, advocacy of policy options, and develops proposals that are consistent with the policy objectives of the Falkland Islands Government.

The post-holder will have a varied and substantial workload which includes complex projects and the production of quality outcomes to deadlines, in addition to engaging with stakeholders within and outside government.

The role involves using technical and analytical expertise to provide advice on how best to prioritise and gather the evidence-base, and using quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect, analyse, interpret and present evidence to form comprehensive policy formulation. This includes working closely with analytical and other policy specialists within the Policy Department to ensure high quality recommendations are provided to client departments and decision-makers.

The Person

The Senior Policy Adviser/Policy Advisershould hold a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject such as political science, economics, public policy, social science or law, with proven relevant experience in formulating public policy in a public sector or research organisation (government, non-governmental organisation or similar) with public policy responsibility. The person best suited for this position will also have a demonstrated commitment to high quality service delivery, the ability to effectively manage and prioritise a challenging and varied portfolio of work, and the ability to advise and collaborate with individuals at all levels across government and with external stakeholders.

The Package

• Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.
• Starting Salary - This is a dual graded role depending on qualifications and experience commencing from £42,141 - £48,590 per annum within Grade C (Policy Adviser) or from £47,428 - £54,424 per annum within Grade B (Senior Policy Adviser).
• Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity (taxable).
• 41 days paid leave, 30 days paid annual leave plus 11 government and public holidays.
