
Portage Worker - SEND and Inclusion Senior Specialist
We are looking for a compassionate, skilled and enthusiastic SEND and Inclusion Senior Specialist Support Worker to join our highly regarded Portage Team within the Specialist Inclusion Support Service. Portage is a specialist home-visiting educational service for children aged 0-3 years with significant additional needs and disabilities.
This opportunity is fulltime, term-time plus 1 week and temporary until 31st August 2029.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
- Assess children’s development through observation and play-based activities.
- Work alongside parents and carers to identify and support next developmental steps.
- Design and model practical play activities that can be continued at home.
- Build parents’ confidence in supporting their child’s learning and development.
- Support children and families during transitions into early years settings.
- Work collaboratively with nursery staff and other professionals to promote inclusion.
- Delivery of group sessions and family-based programmes where appropriate.
WHAT WILL I NEED?
You will need:
- A strong understanding of child development in the early years.
- Experience working with young children with additional needs and/or SEND.
- Ability to build positive relationships with children and families.
- Confidence to work independently with a community-based caseload.
- Commitment to inclusive practice and improving outcomes for children.
- Nursery Nurse qualification or equivalent, including NNEB, BTEC National Diploma in Caring Services, NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education, or other recognised equivalent qualifications.
