Positive Activities Support Worker

22.5 hours per week, funded until 30th September 2027 in first instance

Newhaven based with Eastbourne delivery, much of the cohort being mainly across Wealden area.

Working within our Community Development & Health Youth team, you will work closely with an identified cohort of Ukrainian guest children & young people. This is a predominantly outreach role where you will identify, source & potentially fund activities and support required to support this cohort’s health & emotional wellbeing, enabling them to become more integrated and reduce social isolation, especially when living in a more rural location. This might include access to sports, music, arts, theatre and other such acitivites. If a number of children & young people request or identify similar activities in a geography, you will help to create groups and fund opportunities for this to be realised.

With previous experience of Safeguarding, assessing need & monitoring the engagement of children & young people, you will have sensitivity to the specific needs of this cohort, as well as experience of holding excellent professional boundaries.

This role requires an enhanced DBS check. Being a car driver & owner is essential as many East Sussex delivery locations or participants are rural and not well served by public transport.

We are looking for people to join our team who have the qualities and skills we feel would most benefit our clients; professionalism, empathy, kindness and understanding. In return, we understand people want to work in a supportive environment with friendly colleagues. We offer a flexible, hybrid approach to delivery wherever possible, annual leave of 25 days per year pro rata plus bank holidays and sick pay from the start (increasing with service), additional sick pay per year for planned operations and recovery, a pension scheme, bereavement leave, and managers who are available to you… plus a day off for your birthday!

Interviews to be conducted on Thursday 8th October 2026 in Newhaven.

You may think that you’re not a 100% match to what we’re looking for, but we recognise that some skills and experience may be transferable rather than an exact match. If you’re unsure about whether to apply, please do contact the HR team on hr@sussexcommunity.org.uk and we would be happy to arrange an informal discussion with the recruiting manager.
