    The Public Realm team are responsible for driving up recycling, preventing waste and helping improve the cleanliness of Newham’s streets and parks. This is an exciting time to join our team, to assist with the development of services to drive performance across the portfolio in the bid to tackle the climate emergency.

    About the Job

    We are looking to appoint a Principal Environmental Improvement Officer to join our team. You will lead and deliver a range of projects within the Public Realm Service delivered by yourself and other team members utilising established project management and programme governance processes. You will also support the Public Realm Leadership Team in implementing the strategy and policy to deliver our ambitious plans over the coming few years including the implementation of the new borough wide food waste service. You will be leading on the Communications workstream to deliver the borough wide service. The role will also support in the strategic planning of the engagement programme and communications plan to achieve a reduction in the production of waste, an increase in the reuse of products and recycling levels, a reduction in fly tipping and an improvement in the cleanliness and quality of public spaces within the borough. The post holder will have both budget and staff management responsibilities for a high functioning and capable team.

    About You

    You’ll have comprehensive knowledge, experience and commitment to sustainable waste management. You’ll have experience collaboratively managing contracts and monitoring data to deliver best value. We are looking for a candidate with the analytical skills to develop a range of projects to reduce waste, increase re-use and recycling and to manage these projects to successful completion.
