We have an exciting opportunity available for a Project Manager to join our Business Change Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a Full-Time, 12-month Fixed Term Contract.
This role sits at the heart of the Council’s Organisational Productivity Programme - a strategic response to the increasing financial and operational pressures facing local government. With rising demand in key services such as adult and children’s social care, ongoing inflationary pressures, and limited funding growth, the Council is undertaking significant transformation to ensure long-term sustainability, including delivering substantial savings over the coming years.
As the Project Manager, you will ensure the successful delivery and monitoring of projects across the organisation. You will engage with cross-functional senior stakeholders to drive progress, ensure strong governance, maintain clear and transparent reporting, escalate issues where required, mitigate risks, and support effective change management.

Key Responsibilities
- Act as Project Manager specifically for large scale, priority projects for WBC tomeet its strategic priorities.
- Take a pro-active approach to build strong relationships quickly, and identify and understand dependencies.
- Follow the Business Change Framework methodology and ways of working.
- Administer and manage the project process and service project meetings.
- To agree and produce clear, concise project plans and delivery timescales.
- Identify key outputs and milestones for decision.
- Report to the appropriate governance forums, track and monitor actions.
- Manage Risks and Issues and record and tracking of costs / benefits.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years Project Management experience with evidence of successful delivery.
- Trained in PRINCE II and / or equivalent project management methodology.
- Knowledge of local government and particularly transformational Government and efficiency agenda.
- Relevant change management qualification or skills and experience (Prosci or similar).
- Experience of using Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, MS Project, MS Visio, PowerPoint.

Whilst this is a fixed term contract appointment, for anyone already employed by Wokingham Borough Council this would be classed as a secondment if successful. Therefore, the usual permission requests for secondments apply and you must speak to your line manager in the first instance before applying.
