Public Health Practitioners
We have an exciting opportunity for 3 new Public Health Practitioners to join our Public Health Team at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full-time, permanent basis.
As Public Health Practitioner, you will lead on a varied and exciting programme of work aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of residents. The key purpose of the role is to work with colleagues and partners to help reduce unfair and preventable differences in health and wellbeing across our communities, so that everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Our vision is for all residents and communities in Wokingham Borough to be healthy, happy and safe.
You will support the development, delivery and management of a wide range of programmes and projects, using flexible and matrix approaches, informed by local priorities and need.
We are recruiting 3 public health practitioner roles, one for each of the following portfolios:
- NHS Health Checks and community public health
- Population mental health
- Health protection and sexual and reproductive health

Key responsibilities:
- Support the development, delivery and project management of public health programmes, with a view to improving health outcomes for the local community and addressing health inequalities.
- Work in collaboration with colleagues across the council and other agencies, to support the development, implementation and coordination of public health programmes.
- Supporting commissioning and de-commissioning of services by contributing to health equity impact assessments, cost–benefit analysis, business cases and service specifications to agreed deadlines.
- Support the development of evidence-based needs assessments, strategies and action plans to meet identified local health needs.
Candidate requirements:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience in public health or related field
- An understanding of population health and its inter-relationship with other factors, as well as the political and organisation sensitivities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations, with an ability to vary style to meet the needs of the audience
- Experience of working with stakeholders and project sponsor/s demonstrating the ability to negotiate, persuade and influence
