An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join Redcar & Cleveland's Housing Standards Team as a Public Protection Officer.

Appointment of the successful candidate will reflect qualifications, experience and competence against the relevant criteria within the Public Protection Officer career grade structure (Levels 1 to 4).

This post provides an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking to develop a rewarding career in housing regulation and enforcement, with progression available through the career grade subject to achievement of the required competencies and experience.

If you are interested in a career that has a real impact on the health, safety and quality of life of residents, then housing standards offers a rewarding and challenging opportunity. As we continue to implement the significant changes brought about by the Renters' Rights Act and wider housing reform, we can promise an interesting, varied and challenging workload that sits at the heart of protecting some of the borough's most vulnerable residents.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out a variety of duties which may include investigating housing complaints and service requests, dealing with reports of housing disrepair in the private rented sector, preparing and serving statutory notices, monitoring compliance and undertaking enforcement action where appropriate, participating in proactive projects to tackle rogue landlords and poor housing conditions and investigating tenancy relations matters, including unlawful eviction and harassment.

The role requires sound knowledge of housing, regulatory or enforcement legislation together with excellent communication, organisational and investigative skills. However, support, training and mentoring will be available to assist the successful candidate in developing their knowledge and progressing through the career grade structure. We always aim to provide the highest standards of customer service and therefore the postholder will need to possess excellent communication skills and the ability to manage what will be a diverse and demanding workload.

If you have the relevant qualifications, experience and the ability to provide sound and reasonable judgement whilst working under pressure, we would welcome an application from you!

Whether you are looking to build your career in housing regulation or you are an experienced enforcement professional seeking your next challenge, we would like to hear from you!
