Make a Difference in Lancaster
Join us as a Public Realm Maintenance Operative and play a vital role in keeping Lancaster’s public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming. Your work will directly enhance the community’s environment, from well-maintained parks and streets to graffiti-free walls, supporting the council’s commitment to a vibrant, attractive district.

What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll carry out a variety of tasks including grass cutting, litter and graffiti removal, leaf clearance, and maintaining bedding areas. Operating fleet vehicles and mechanical sweepers, you’ll help keep our streets and parks pristine. You’ll also assist with event setups, support community volunteers, and ensure public safety through careful waste disposal and seasonal gritting. Your role is hands-on, outdoors, and essential to the smooth running of our public realm services.

You’ll Fit Right In If…
You have a Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience in horticulture or maintenance, and hold a full, current UK driving licence. You’re confident using power tools and machinery, able to work both independently and as part of a team, and take pride in delivering high standards. Your positive attitude, good communication skills, and respect for health and safety align with our values of Working Together, Ambition, Pride, and Ownership.
