About the Team:

The Rights of Way Team is responsible for protecting, maintaining and improving Warwickshire’s public rights of way network. The network is an important community asset, supporting access to the countryside, active travel, health and wellbeing, tourism and local connectivity.

This role will play a key part in helping the team deliver practical maintenance works and maximise the value of volunteer involvement across the network. This is an opportunity to make a visible and lasting contribution to Warwickshire’s countryside access network. You will be part of a dedicated team working to maintain and improve public rights of way for residents, visitors and communities across the county.

About the Role;

Warwickshire County Council’s Rights of Way Team is looking for a practical, organised and motivated Ranger / Volunteer Coordinator to help support the maintenance and improvement of Warwickshire’s public rights of way network. This is a varied and hands-on role, supporting the delivery of works across the county’s footpaths, bridleways and other public rights of way. You will help ensure that routes remain accessible, safe and well maintained, while also coordinating and supervising volunteer groups who make an important contribution to the service.

You will be based at Budbrooke Depot and will work closely with colleagues, volunteers, community groups, landowners and other partners to deliver practical improvements on the ground.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable and confident working outdoors in a hands-on environment. You will need to be well organised, safety-conscious and able to motivate and support volunteers from a range of backgrounds. You will have good communication skills and the ability to plan and supervise minor construction or maintenance works. Experience of using power tools such as chainsaws, brush cutters and hedge trimmers, together with appropriate certification, is essential. The role offers a varied working environment, combining practical outdoor activity, volunteer coordination, problem solving and partnership working.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out practical works to open, maintain and improve public rights of way, including installing or repairing gates, stiles, bridges, surfacing and drainage.
• Plan, programme and supervise work undertaken by volunteer groups.
• Provide on-site training, instruction and supervision to volunteers, including safe use of tools and equipment.
• Ensure volunteer activity and practical works are carried out safely and in accordance with health and safety requirements and risk assessments.
• Liaise with volunteer groups, community service managers and other partners to support effective deployment of volunteers.
• Provide logistical support, including ordering, storing, transporting and maintaining tools, equipment and materials.
• Manage and maintain assets required for service delivery, including vehicles, plant, power tools, hand tools and consumable stock.
• Liaise and negotiate with landowners on access and related matters.
