Job summary

​This role is available as either a designated homeworking role or a hybrid working role. However, some travel may be required. For hybrid working purposes, this post can be based at our sites in either Ryton-on-Dunsmore (CV8 3EN), Durham (DL15 8DS), Harrogate (HG1 1EP) or London (E14 4PU). ​

Job description

This role is available until 31/03/2027 as a fixed term appointment or as a secondment for colleagues employed directly by the College or the Civil Service.

National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) & Public Protection (PP)

Would you like to join a skilled and dedicated team of professionals who are committed to reducing the prevalence of VAWG and Public Protection (PP) offences across England and Wales, as part of a wider-system approach?

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to join the National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls & Public Protection (NCVPP) within the College of Policing. The NCVPP provides support to forces in tackling the threat of VAWG and PP and improving our services to victims. You will also work with academics, victim groups and across Government to support our ambition and to ensure our work reflects the lived experiences of diverse communities.

We are working to continually train and upskill our officers and staff with the specialist knowledge and expertise required to carry out their roles effectively. We also continue to develop programmes, expanding on existing best practice with a focus on perpetrators and preventing life-long harm to victims.

Our vetting

​​This role sits within the research and review team within the VKPP and will be supporting the effective delivery of the Professionalising Public Protection Evidence & Evaluation (PPPEE) deliverables.​

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • ​​Conducting in-house research and analysis projects, selecting and applying appropriate research methodologies to the research question to answer customer’s information needs to agreed time, budget and quality specifications and take remedial action to address shortfalls in delivery.
  • Contribute to research projects of significant scale, selecting and apply a range of analytical techniques to carry out quality, timely and relevant in-house analysis and briefing work to meet colleague requirements and customer specifications.
  • Designing, developing and implementing outreach activities, supporting the formation of partnerships and collaborative working to improve understanding of and confidence in using evidence amongst non-specialist colleagues in the College, our customers and stakeholders to build the evidence base for policing.
  • ​​ Contributing to, regularly update content for, and identify and address evidence gap requirements through the delivery of evidence briefings and other knowledge resources to maximise their use in supporting evidence-based policing.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • ​​Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to translate technical and academic language into an appropriate format and style for all stakeholders.
  • Ability to summarise and interpret information accurately, making use of different sources and to conduct basic analyses of key data sets utilising a working knowledge of relevant data analysis packages.
  • ​​ Experience in designing or delivering small scale and less complex research projects, defining research questions and writing draft specifications.
  • Excellent standard of planning and organisational ability
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build constructive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, promoting confidence in using evidence and supporting an evidence-based approach
  • To meet the Government Social Research Technical Framework for Technical Skills and Using & Promoting Social Research at Research Officer level.
