Permanent Contract

Are you a qualified teacher motivated to make a difference in children’s lives? Does working with young children with challenging behaviour as a result of social, emotional and mental health needs sound like a career for you? Can you find different and engaging ways to teach children who are not accessing mainstream education? Then, read on, as we may be able to help you start on a career that you may find rewarding and highly motivating.

Due to the expansion of our SEMH provision we are looking to recruit a SEMH teacher.

Our provision provides a more inclusive offer for pupils aged 4-11. years old with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in Halton - giving them the opportunity, in time, to be educated alongside their peers.

Our school is looking for a patient and caring teacher to work successfully with the children and build positive relationships towards learning and education; with the aim of steering them back into mainstream schools when they are ready.

We are looking for somebody who has the ability to:

  • Work with children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and the resultant behavioural difficulties, in order to help them overcome the difficulties they are experiencing in their education.
  • Raise standards of SEMH learners achievements using a range of teaching strategies, in line with the school’s policies and procedures.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the provision made by the school with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs; and responsibility as the teacher of the SEMH Provision at Victoria Road Primary School.
  • Set the ethos of the SEMH Provision, in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, and work with other members of staff employed within the SEMH Provision to maintain high standards and ensuring consistency.
  • Hold high aspirations for all children and ensure that all learners needs are met in line with the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and National Curriculum, as appropriate.

The role will involve planning and delivering individualised learning on cross-curricular levels as some pupils will be working at different levels to others. Equally, the focus of the lessons will be to help the pupils to manage behaviour difficulties, social-emotional difficulties and to facilitate the children’s academic and personal development.

The successful candidate will have primary school teaching experience and the ability to manage challenging behaviour while successfully engaging with children. Within the class you will have the support from a Teaching Assistant and potentially other additional 1:1 Learning Support Assistants (depending on the needs of the children), as well as other support staff around the school.

Further details – including a copy of the Job Description and Person Specification is available via JGP. https://schooljobs.haltonbc.info/

Interviews will take place 18/03/2026

Visits to school: 03/03/26 @ 1.30pm, 05/03/2026 @ 1.00pm, 05/03/26 @ 4.00pm.
