
Risk and Assurance Manager

What you'll do
As the Risk and Assurance Manager, you will play a key role in embedding a strong risk management, assurance, and internal control culture across the organisation. Reporting to the Head of Risk and Assurance, you will provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to ensure risks are effectively identified, managed, and controlled in line with organisational appetite.
You'll lead the delivery of enterprise risk management activities, coordinate assurance and internal audit work, and provide insightful reporting to senior leaders and the Board. Acting as a key liaison across directorates, you will ensure alignment between risk management practices and the broader assurance framework, helping the organisation make informed, confident decisions.
How you'll do it
- Lead the implementation and ongoing embedding of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework across the organisation.
- Provide second-line oversight and challenge on risk exposures, controls, and compliance with risk policies.
- Maintain and enhance risk registers, ensuring they reflect material risks, control effectiveness, and emerging issues.
- Support the development and delivery of a risk-based assurance and internal audit plan aligned to strategic priorities.
- Lead and/or oversee assurance reviews, ensuring findings are clearly articulated with actionable recommendations.
- Track and report on management actions arising from assurance and audit activity.
- Analyse complex data to identify trends, interdependencies, and emerging risks.
- Develop high-quality risk reporting, dashboards, and briefings for Executive and Board-level audiences.
- Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and assess the effectiveness of mitigation strategies.
- Partner with directorates to embed risk and control practices into planning and decision-making processes.
- Provide training, advice, and guidance to promote consistent understanding of risk and assurance principles.
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and continuously improve risk and assurance frameworks.

Essential:
- Professional qualification (or working towards) in risk management, internal audit, or accounting (e.g. IRM, IIA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
- Proven experience in risk management, assurance, or internal audit within a complex or regulated environment.
- Strong understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks, internal controls, and assurance methodologies (including the three lines of defence).
- Experience of analysing complex data and translating insights into actionable recommendations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrable experience of building strong internal and external relationships.
- Ability to manage, develop, and motivate a team to deliver high performance.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- High level of integrity and commitment to ethical standards.
Desirable:.
- Experience of delivering or overseeing internal audit or assurance reviews.
- Experience within housing, finance, or another regulated sector.

Salary range
- £51,815 - £70,621 per year
