Are you a practising SENCo, or a qualified secondary teacher with experience of SEND, looking to secure a role in a specialist educational provision in Chester?
We are looking to appoint a dynamic individual to fill the role of SENCo at Ancora House School, a Cheshire West and Chester local authority provision. The school is connected to Ancora House, a Cheshire and Wirral Partnership adolescent mental health unit, and provides education for 13 to 17 year olds during their inpatient stays.
The successful candidate will have a very good understanding of SEMH; communication and interaction and sensory difficulties, and the impact they have on cognitions and learning. Experience of working with neurodiverse learners will be an advantage. They will have a skillset in analysing learners’ functioning, identifying needs and helping to develop associated strategies to support teaching and learning. They will have knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes; be confident report writers and have an ability to paint an accurate picture of learners’ needs. They will have taught to at least GCSE level and, when needed, join our teaching team to deliver taught sessions. They will also support the deputy head teacher to ensure the school day runs smoothly.
Experience of running and / or contributing to multi-professional meetings is desirable. A passion for advocating for young people in order that they receive an appropriate education offer when they move on, is essential.
The successful candidate will be joining a supportive, experienced staff team which aims to deliver an engaging curriculum, personalised to each pupil’s individual needs, interests, and strengths. With small classes, high staff-to-pupil ratios, access to on-site multi-disciplinary support, they will be part of a team committed to ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to reach their potential.
