The Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, compassionate leader who is passionate about making a meaningful difference. As a SENDCAS Team Leader, you will play a key role in delivering the Best Start Family Hub model, supporting children and young people aged 5–18 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to take part in fun, enriching and fully inclusive clubs and activities. These experiences help build confidence, independence and social skills, and they play a vital part in ensuring smooth, positive transitions into adulthood. The service also provides valued short break opportunities for families, offering essential support that is highly appreciated by those who access it.

This role offers you the chance to:
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape innovative out-of-school activities, designed around children’s strengths and interests
- Ensure services meet required standards, legislation and good practice guidelines.
- Empower staff and volunteers to deliver high-quality, inclusive practice
- Build positive relationships with families, partners and community organisations.
- Consult with children, young people, families and partners to improve service delivery.
- Contribute to monitoring, evaluation and reporting across SENDCAS provision.
- Evidence the impact of your work in children’s confidence, wellbeing and enjoyment.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
This position is currently based at our Best Start Family Hub at The For All Healthy Living Centre.
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 2-3 days in the office
- Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
- Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.

Essential Criteria:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (additional qualification beyond the essential).
- Have experience supporting children and young people with SEND in a care, early years, education, play or community-based setting.
- Experience working alongside other agencies (Education, Health, Social Care)
- Understand the importance of inclusive practice and are committed to removing barriers for children with diverse needs.
- Are confident in leading, motivating and supporting a team with empathy, clarity and enthusiasm.
- Communicate compassionately and professionally with children, families, staff and partner agencies.
- Can plan and deliver activities that are person‑centred, safe and engaging.
- Are organised, adaptable and comfortable managing changing priorities.
- Value co-production and enjoy involving children, young people and families in shaping services.
- Are reflective, open to feedback and committed to ongoing personal and professional development.
