We have an excellent opportunity for a SENDIASS 0-25 Coordinator to join our SENDIASS Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a Permanent, Full-time basis.

As SENDIASS 0-25 Coordinator, you will support the team in delivering and developing the SENDIASS service in accordance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the revised SEN Code of Practice. You will focus on extending our reach to meet the specific needs of children and young people aged 0-25 through dedicated casework, designing and delivering workshops, and creating accessible resources that engage young people with diverse needs.

This role requires a proactive approach to empowering young people to confidently articulate their views on their support needs and future, while ensuring their voices are central to service planning and delivery. You will build effective partnerships with local schools, colleges, health services, and voluntary organisations, and assist in delivering training sessions for parents, carers, and professionals across the borough.

You'll maintain high standards of impartiality, keep abreast of SEND legislation and regional developments, and promote the service locally through conferences, social media, and the local offer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide free, confidential, and impartial advice to children and young people (up to age 25) and their parents regarding special educational needs.
  • Support children, young people, and parents to make informed decisions about their/their child's special educational needs.
  • Assist in resolving disagreements concerning special educational needs.
  • Develop the new SENDIASS service specifically for 0–25-year-olds.
  • Ensure young people can access good quality advice and support on all matters relating to special educational needs, including health and social care.
  • Empower and assist young people to participate confidently in important decisions about their education and care needs.
  • Ensure young people's views are heard alongside those of professionals and their parents.

Candidate Requirements

  • The role requires excellent communication skills with young people, an ability to work as part of a team as well as being able to work independently.
  • You will need to be organised, with good administrative skills. You will have the ability to remain calm and to respond sensitively to difficult situations.
  • You will have experience of working with children and young people with SEND and ideally you will have relevant experience in education or through giving support or advice to families or individuals (knowledge of current SEND law is desirable, although not essential, as training will be given).
