    We are currently recruiting:

These are exciting opportunities to join a service at the heart of transformation in Newham where data and technology are driving real, lasting impact.

    About Us

Newham is a borough full of potential brimming with energy, creativity, and talent. Proudly one of the youngest and most diverse areas in the UK, 72% of our residents come from ethnically diverse communities and speak over 220 languages. Our population of 351,000 continues to grow rapidly, with a 14% increase, the third highest growth rate in London.

In recent years, we have experienced unprecedented levels of investment, growth, and interest in our borough. Yet, despite our progress, the Covid-19 pandemic laid bare the deep-rooted inequalities that persist in Newham. Today, the cost of living crisis continues to intensify those challenges. That is why we are committed to Building a Fairer Newham, a long-term mission focused on economic security, health, equality, and environmental sustainability.

We have set out a bold new vision, to increase the wealth of our local community and shape a future where Newham is recognised as a place of health, wellbeing, and happiness. To realise this vision, we are transforming how we work and how we support our residents and staff, through our newly established DDaT Service.

The Business Systems Management & Information (BSMI) Team where this role sits is a key part of the DDaT Service. It brings together colleagues from across the organisation with shared skillsets and a collective focus on delivering value through business systems and data.

You will be joining Newham at a pivotal moment, underpinned by a clear and ambitious manifesto to ‘get things done’ for our residents. This is your opportunity to influence how we approach transformation helping us work in more agile, inclusive, and people-centred ways. The BSMI team is focused on building a modern, innovative service that embraces collaboration and tackles complex challenges through multidisciplinary teamwork.

    About the Job

As a Business Systems Management & Information (BSMI) Officer, you will play a vital role in advancing how we use technology and business intelligence within Newham’s Environment and Sustainable Transport Directorate, supporting services that manage Anti-social behaviour, Regulatory Services, Planning, Enforcement and Safety, Public Realm and Highways Management. Your work will help the council make smarter decisions, improve service delivery, and ensure value for money by optimising our systems and the data they generate.

You’ll be part of a supportive and forward-thinking team, working collaboratively across services to understand needs, prioritise changes, and contribute to a continuous product development programme that maximises the benefits of the council’s application architecture.

    In this role, you will:

Develop and maintain key business systems used by the directorate, including Idox UNIform, Idox DMS, Total Land Charges (TLC), Public Access, Tranman, Mayrise, and Alloy.

Work closely with stakeholders to gather system requirements, analyse impacts, and balance priorities.

Use data and business intelligence tools such as SSRS and Microsoft Power BI to generate actionable insights that support decision-making.

Troubleshoot system issues, support users, and ensure continuous improvement in system performance and user experience.

Support product development cycles to deliver digital services and solutions aligned with directorate goals.

Contribute to the delivery of projects that drive innovation, sustainability, and efficiency across the borough.

    About You

You will be able to positively engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders in change processes and have experience in the delivery of operational saving initiatives whilst driving service improvement.

Inspiring innovation and partnership working, you should have the ability to engage, develop and drive services to achieve operational excellence, increasing efficiency and productivity.

    What we’re looking for:

    Experience working with business systems.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Working knowledge of SQL and reporting tools (SSRS/Power BI) is desirable.

Familiarity with one or more of our key platforms (Idox UNIform, Tranman, Mayrise, Alloy) is an advantage.
