The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is seeking a Senior Delivery Manager to join our Information Technology Directorate. Our mission is to keep people safe on the coast and at sea, and technology plays a vital role in achieving this. The IT Directorate delivers innovative digital, data, and technology solutions that support lifesaving operations and critical services across the UK. You’ll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team that manages complex projects and drives transformation. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you’ll help ensure our systems and services are robust, efficient, and future-ready. MCA offers a hybrid working model, giving you flexibility while contributing to projects that make a real difference to public safety and maritime operations.

Job description

As a Senior Delivery Manager, you will lead the delivery of complex digital and technology projects that are critical to MCA’s mission. You’ll manage priorities, budgets, and risks while engaging senior stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes. Your role includes driving progress, resolving challenges, and keeping projects on track, making a real impact on services that protect lives at sea.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  1. Deliver MCA’s digital, data, and technology projects, focusing on medium and large-scale initiatives.
  2. Build and maintain strong relationships with project sponsors and key stakeholders.
  3. Ensure projects meet agreed objectives within time, cost, and quality constraints.
  4. Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies within project tolerances.
  5. Apply best-practice project management methods and maintain accurate project plans.
  6. Manage scope control and change processes effectively.
  7. Coordinate dependencies across multiple projects and initiatives within MCA.
  8. Handle escalations promptly, resolving issues or escalating beyond tolerances when necessary.

Person specification

Required experience:

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  • Evidence of running projects using various project methodologies e.g. agile, waterfall, lean.
  • Evidence of managing multiple projects.
  • Evidence in developing relationships with stakeholders meeting their requirements and expectations.
  • Evidence of managing conflicting demand and an ability to prioritise effectively
  • Experience in collaboration techniques.
  • Applicants must be able to satisfy the conditions necessary to obtain the SC security clearance

Additional Information

Operational Delivery Profession (ODP) is the largest and most diverse professional community across the Civil Service. Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week. Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

Occasional travel to other offices may be required, which may involve overnight stays.

This role will be based in the Southampton HQ. MCA supports flexible working and operates a hybrid working model between home and office for this role, giving you greater flexibility over where and when you work. Details of the arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager.

Stage 2: Interview
