Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £81,529 to £91,121 per annum depending on experience

Grade: 12

Reporting Office: Stratford, London

Working Location: South East London based sites

Persona: Site Based Worker: Contractual hours to be worked from

allocated sites, with ad hoc office attendance as required

As a Senior Design & Technical Manager, you will play a leading role in guiding multiple projects from inception through to post-completion, providing expert technical oversight and driving high-quality, cost-effective design solutions across the portfolio.

Your Impact in the Role:

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, motivate, and manage the Design & Technical team, ensuring high performance, excellent customer service, and alignment with L&Q’s values. Support staff development, manage performance, and recognise excellence.
  • Design Management & Delivery: Oversee design activities from scheme inception to project handover, ensuring cost-effective and deliverable solutions. Coordinate design work, advise on build considerations, and support first-stage design development.
  • Strategic Project Oversight: Manage multiple projects to meet L&Q objectives, key performance indicators, and targets relating to cost, quality, and time. Contribute to strategic innovation across the directorate and wider business.
  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely with Land, Commercial, Construction, and Site teams to ensure design effectiveness, support due diligence, commission reports, and identify alternative design solutions where needed.
  • External Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain strong relationships with consultants, contractors, and third-party partners. Positively represent L&Q in external forums, working groups, and speaking engagements.
  • Financial & Contract Management: Set, agree, and control budgets within the design function. Manage procurement and tendering of design-related services.

What you'll bring:

  • Design & Technical Expertise: Strong analytical, design, technical and commercial skills, with excellent attention to detail and understanding of project constraints.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead, motivate, inspire and manage staff to achieve demanding objectives.
  • Stakeholder & Communication Skills: Strong collaboration, negotiation, influencing, presentation, and networking capabilities.
  • Project Coordination Skills: Ability to multitask, manage deadlines, and coordinate activities across multiple live projects.
  • Digital & Commercial Acumen: Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project/Asta, with strong financial and commercial awareness including contract and risk management.
  • Professional Qualifications: A post-degree qualification in a relevant design discipline, with accreditation or progress toward CIOB, RIBA, or an equivalent body.
