Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the NCA’s high performing Communications team.

In this role, you will use your digital expertise to support the delivery of the communications strategy through digital platforms including content generation, social media and web development.

You will support the team in driving forward digital ambitions, embracing an audience-lead and insight driven approach.

Job description

Utilising your proven social media channel expertise, you’ll support social media channel development as well as content generation, web and digital campaigns – with a particular focus on video.

With a demonstrable knowledge and understanding of social media and digital platforms, your experience will include the generation of compelling, creative content as well as designing and implementing social media campaigns.

You will be accustomed to using social listening tools and insight to inform digital output and provide real-time reporting where requested.

With evident editorial and technical skills, you will support the Digital Communications Manager in management of the NCA website, including functionality and performance and develop, maintain and update website content in collaboration with internal stakeholders and the website supplier.

You will have good communication and analytical skills and the ability to communicate clearly with a variety of internal and on occasion external stakeholders. You will have the ability to multi task and manage multiple priorities.

You may be expected to deputise for the Digital Communications Manager where required and asked to participate in and contribute to a number of cross-communications campaigns and initiatives to drive success of the wider Communications Team and further our goals.

We are looking for someone who is creative and bold and not afraid to develop new and creative approaches to storytelling, ensuring that we’re continually testing and learning and increasing the impact of our messages across our owned channels and beyond.

You will be proactive, strategic, resilient and able to handle a busy workload, work accurately at pace, and prioritise effectively to deliver against your objectives. You will also be flexible in taking on different activities to accommodate team requirements, and will be required to work out of hours and occasional weekends as part of an on-call rota.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support with the implementation of the Agency's digital ambitions.

Support the Digital Communications Manager and wider team with the implementation of the Agency’s digital ambitions; through content creation, social media channel management, digital engagement, campaign delivery and evaluation.

Manage audience specific campaigns.

Manage bespoke, audience specific campaigns – in line with the Agency’s mission and communication objectives in protecting the public from serious and organised crime.

Develop the NCA’s website and social media channels.

Develop the NCA’s website and social media channels; analyse social and website analytics; use insight and evaluation to create and/or commission original social content; and use social listening tools to monitor our impact.

Content planning.

Work alongside the Media and Strategic Communication teams to plan for upcoming news stories and campaigns; whilst providing digital advice and support to officers across the agency.

Content creation.

Use filming and photography skills to capture operational activity; and edit footage and imagery to create engaging, high quality visual content. Create, edit and write content, including copy, graphics and animations for use across all digital channels. Working with creative agencies to deliver content where required.

Training and upskilling.

Assist with training and upskilling the wider Communication Team in digital tools and techniques, as well as other teams across the agency to develop products such as videos and podcasts. Provide technical and editorial support and expertise to teams within Communications and beyond.


On-call working:

Typically four periods per month, one period being out of core hours (5pm-11pm weekdays Or 09:00 - 11 pm weekends). On-Call rotas will be discussed in detail at offer stage.

Extensive experience of content creation.

Experience of creating engaging content that drives awareness, engagement or conversation for social media. Experience of using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar to create/edit content.

Experience of social media channel management.

A proven news sense, with knowledge of engagement trends and digital techniques. Experience of analysing social and website analytics, and using social listening tools to monitor impact.

Experience of campaign delivery and evaluation.

Excellent understanding of what makes a digital campaign work. Proven ability to analyse digital insights and produce engaging content, aligned to strategic/tactical objectives for a range of target audiences, and evaluating success. Experience of working with media buying agencies.

Filming and video editing skills.

Experience of using filming and video editing skills across a variety of content types including interviews, piece to camera (PTC), internal events, user-generated content (UGC), operations and campaigns.

Prior to commencing the role, you will need to successfully complete SC Enhanced clearance. Longlist

Desirable Criteria

Desirable criteria are only used for assessment in the event of a tie break.- Having worked in a digital communications related role, relevant experience of developing and evaluating digital content.
- Industry-recognised communication qualification (such as CIPR) or equivalent experience.

Assessment Outcome

Outcomes will be communicated via the NCA recruitment portal.
If successful but no role is immediately available, you may be placed on a reserve list for 12 months.
Reserve lists can be used to fill similar role types across the Agency where the assessment criteria is considered a match by the recruitment team and the business area.

In the event of a tie at the assessment stage, available roles will be offered in merit order using the following order:
