Are you enthusiastic, creative and ready to make lunchtimes fun for our children?

Warwick Road Primary School is looking for a warm, energetic Learning Mentor who enjoys working with children and understands the value of play. We want someone who will bring ideas, organise exciting activities and managing student behaviour constructively (within accordance with the school’s behaviour policy)

You will help make lunchtimes a highlight of the school day, creating opportunities for children to explore, be active, make friends and try something new. From playground challenges and team games to imaginative play and quieter activities, you will help ensure there is something for everyone.

Lunchtime is a crucial part of the school day for children to develop social skills, form friendships, and recharge. In this role, you will not just supervise; you will actively model positive behaviour, teach play skills, and guide children in conflict resolution, ensuring they return to their afternoon lessons ready to learn

Your role will include:

  • Creating, planning and leading a variety of enjoyable games and activities.
  • Joining in and playing alongside children, encouraging their ideas and interests.
  • Introducing new playground games, creative activities and friendly challenges.
  • Helping children build friendships, share, take turns and work together through play.
  • Encouraging children of all abilities, including those with SEND, to participate and feel included.
  • Working with the lunchtime team to develop welcoming, engaging play spaces and make good use of equipment.
  • Offering gentle support when children need help joining in or resolving disagreements.
  • Helping to keep children safe, happy and cared for throughout lunchtime.
  • Deal with incidents of inappropriate or challenging behaviour immediately, calmly, and effectively in strict accordance with the School’s Behaviour Policy.
  • De-escalate minor conflicts between pupils and maintain accurate, detailed logs of any behaviour incidents

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys spending time with children and brings enthusiasm, warmth and a sense of fun.
  • Has creative ideas and the confidence to turn them into activities.
  • Is happy to be active, work outdoors and get involved in games.
  • Can encourage children who may be shy or unsure about joining in.
  • Works well with others and takes initiative.
  • Is patient, approachable and committed to making every child feel valued.
  • The ability to remain firm but fair when enforcing school boundaries.

Experience in a school, childcare, sports coaching, playwork, youth work or a similar setting would be valuable.

We offer:

  • Enthusiastic children who enjoy playing and learning.
  • A welcoming school and supportive staff team.
  • The opportunity to bring your own ideas and help shape our lunchtime provision.
  • Relevant training and professional development.
  • A rewarding role where you can make a difference every day.

You are welcome to visit the school on Wednesday 4 or Thursday 5 November, between 11.30 am to 1.00 pm to observe our current lunchtime provision, please email the office on office.warwickroad@kirkleeseducation.uk to book a place

Note - This is a new position and is initially offered until 31 August 2027, however it may be extended.
