Job description

To protect a nation, we need people with all kinds of skills. That means everyone from architects to accountants, and electricians to engineers. Our HR team knows this well. They’re the ones who offer support every step of the way, helping us attract, train, develop and retain a range of brilliantly talented colleagues. Now, you’ve got the opportunity to join them.

Putting people first.

Make a vital contribution to the success of our international operation.

When you join our small, collaborative team you’ll have the opportunity to take on an influential role that goes beyond traditional pay administration, and work on every aspect of reward from annual negotiations and benefits design through to pensions, job evaluation, benchmarking and policy. Liaising with employees, managers, senior leaders, trade unions and external partners, you’ll build relationships, work on strategic projects and help shape decisions that have an impact on our organisation. Analysing market trends data, liaison with service providers, preparation of business cases and presenting findings to stakeholders, you’ll also make an important contribution to the ongoing modernisation of the rewards and benefits we offer our employees.

Your day-to-day tasks will include providing advice to managers on recognition scheme governance, controls and expenditure, helping to deliver reward-related initiatives, and researching pay trends and labour market influences. Working on operational aspects of the annual pay award process and maintaining our job evaluation processes, you’ll also help to provide grading guidance training to your colleagues and contribute to the development of our many reward related policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities will include ensuring HR Reward processes and service standards are followed consistently, monitoring our payroll provider and our pension provider’s service performance.

To be a success in this fast-paced, busy role you’ll be highly organised, capable of managing a range of competing priorities, and a strong communicator with the skills to explain complex reward and pay issues to a wide range of audiences. Proactive, self-motivated and methodical, and ready to take ownership of projects, we’ll expect you to be flexible and ready to adapt to changing business needs. With the confidence to handle challenging conversations, you should also have proven experience of policy development and implementation, and the ability to manage, analyse and interpret data.

You should be a proficient user of Microsoft Office with a particular focus on Excel, ideally have some experience of salary benchmarking and job evaluation methodologies. In addition, a Level 5 CIPD qualification or equivalent experience would be a plus, as would some knowledge of reward and retention frameworks.
