We are looking for a professional, motivated analyst to share their experience, knowledge and enthusiasm on the DI’s flagship intelligence analysis course.
The Intelligence Assessment College (IAC) in the Defence Intelligence Academy is responsible for the delivery of the Intelligence Assessment Programme. This includes the Defence Intelligence Analysis Module (DIAM) (focussing on at least one area of structured techniques, epistemology and psychology) and the Defence Intelligence Assessment Production and Assessment Briefing (DIAP and DIAB) modules, as well as other education and training events to support DI and defence priorities.
This small (seven educators) active team is directed by Deputy Chief Defence Intelligence (DCDI) to deliver analysis training to civilian and military staff working in Defence Intelligence, and members of the wider Intelligence Community. The instructors carry the primary responsibility for training, and maintaining standards of delivery. The post also assists the team with the management of the College. The instructors have shared responsibility for IAC input to researching the requirement for specific analysis training across the Defence and wider intelligence communities and, where appropriate, designing, facilitating and delivering this training.
In conjunction with the other IAC instructors, deliver, validate and update as necessary all elements of the Intelligence Assessment Programme (IAP) and follow-up support to analysts in the workplace. Travel to other sites in the UK will be required.
- Assist with the design and delivery of other analysis and assessment courses, including workshops and overseas capacity-building training to friendly nations, as directed by DI Res Overseas Engagement, and in accordance with overseas customer requirements. International travel opportunities may be available.
- In conjunction with DI (particularly the Head of Profession for Defence Intelligence Analysis (DCDI) and All-Source Capability Lead (ASCL), maintain a high level of skill in intelligence analysis and assist ASCL staff to research future requirements for intelligence analysis training across the defence and intelligence communities.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with other relevant organisations (particularly those of the UK and US intelligence communities) directly or through the offices of the PHIA in the Cabinet Office. In collaboration with the DI enterprise, particularly assist with identification, sharing and exploitation of best practice within DI and the Single Service intelligence community.
- Maintain close contacts with and maintain currency with DI analysts’ work practices.
- Take the lead in the preparation of training spaces and materials in advance of courses.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a full-time post and is advertised as 37 hours per week.
It could be covered by two part-time incumbents under a job share arrangement; this would only be possible if suitable candidates wishing to work part time hours were found successful during the recruitment campaign.
Person specification
The successful candidate will have at least 3 years recent relevant experience of ‘all-source’ intelligence assessment with a proven track record of intelligence product creation.
The successful candidate will have completed the DIAM (Defence Intelligence Analysis Module) or IAP (Intelligence Assessment Programme), or equivalent training (for example the PHIA New Analyst Programme).
It is desirable that the successful candidate has a training/education qualification from a recognised academic institution. A willing to work towards this qualification whilst in post is acceptable.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement. All office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to site capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of office attendance.
