Job summary

This role is available as a designated homeworking role. Please note, travel will be required to College sites and to deliver training to a variety of law enforcement organisations across the UK. There maybe the opportunity for international travel where required.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Superintendent or Chief Inspector, on temporary promotion to join the College of Policing’s senior leadership training team.

We are looking for exceptional candidates who can demonstrate excellent interpersonal, operational, and organisational leadership skills.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have a strong commitment to training, developing, coaching, and mentoring others and a long-term commitment to their own continuing professional development. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a real difference to policing by delivering leadership training and development programmes to middle and senior leaders in policing and wider law enforcement agencies in the UK and overseas.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of the College’s acclaimed Aspire Leadership Programme for underrepresented groups. Applications for candidates from underrepresented group would be especially welcomed. The selected candidate will deliver training programmes to agreed content and assessment specifications, developing, and adapting, where appropriate, teaching techniques, lesson plans, scenarios, and training materials to meet individual students’ abilities, levels of understanding and learning styles, to ensure that all students receive a consistent, high quality training intervention which addresses their learning and development needs.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivery of leadership Training Programmes in the UK and overseas
  • Advising and guiding students and associate trainers when delivering learning programmes
  • Working with other College departments to provide subject matter expertise in the formulation of evidence-based policing standards in the design and development of learning products

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Qualified Trainer to meet the Police Sector Standard for Trainers through either a Level 4 Diploma in Learning and Development, a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or equivalent or through the College of Policing Training Essentials Programme or be willing to achieve the Level 4 diploma within 18 months
  • Extensive experience of successfully operating at a senior leadership level
  • A proven track record in demonstrating exemplary leadership skills and achieving successful outcomes

This role is available for 2 years secondment opportunity to:

  • serving police officers substantive in the rank of Superintendent, or those officers suitably qualified for temporary promotion in the rank of Chief Inspector. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application.
