
Senior Learning Designer
Job summary
As Senior Learning Designer, you lead the design, development and delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based learning solutions that build capability, improve performance and support the delivery of CPS strategic and operational priorities. You create innovative, inclusive and accessible instructor‑led, digital and blended learning interventions that meet the needs of the CPS
You have sound technological skills, have experience of designing training interventions and are able to use a variety of different learning packages. You are highly skilled and able to pass on knowledge and train colleagues too.
You work closely with and advise senior stakeholders and subject matter experts. You are responsible for translating business priorities into coherent, effective learning strategies and interventions. The role promotes and upholds professional standards for learning design, applying modern learning methodologies, user‑centred design and digital innovation to ensure learning solutions are effective, scalable and sustainable.
The Crown Prosecution Service is based in England and Wales. You must be aged 16 or over at the point of starting in this role. The expected start date is approximately 8–12 weeks after the application closing date. As part of this role, you are expected to undertake direct line management responsibilities.

Your roles and responsibilities:
- Lead a team in the design of blended learning solutions, including digital, virtual and face-to-face interventions, grounded in best practice learning design principles.
- Explore and implement innovative approaches such as microlearning, social learning, and performance support tools.
- Translate complex legal, operational and organisational requirements into clear, engaging and accessible learning content.
- Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), operational colleagues, and senior stakeholders to co-design learning solutions.
- Will have direct line management responsibility and will also mentor other colleagues in the team and across the business to help develop their skills and knowledge of the Learning Services function.

- evidence innovation in design, collaborating in a creative environment to employ modern learning theories and technology in learning to maximise the learner experience.
- be proficient in creating content using Microsoft 365 applications, video editing packages, Articulate 360 or equivalent E-learning software and other digital design tools.
- be an associate member of CIPD or be prepared to start working towards that within six months of taking up appointment.

You also need to demonstrate the Crown Prosecution Service or Civil Service values.
The panel has the right to assess the lead behaviour ‘developing self and others’ first. If the standard on this behaviour isn’t met, the other behaviours won’t be considered and your application won’t progress. The panel also has the right to raise the minimum standard pass mark. Reserve list
If you're recommended by the selection panel but not appointed to the current vacancy, you’re put on a reserve list for 12 months. You may be offered another senior learning designer post in the CPS if a vacancy comes up during this period. We may also approach candidates on the waiting list to fill other roles that require similar knowledge and experience.
