Job summary

Homes England has been entrusted with significant increased funding and responsibility and it’s an exciting and pivotal time in Homes England’s journey towards becoming the National Housing Bank. This team will be involved in reviewing the loans the National Housing Bank will make.

Working in a team with the Head of Risk for Lending Products, this post plays a critical role in ensuring the Lending Products Risk Team deliver high quality assurance, challenge and maintenance of standards across Homes England – and the National Housing Bank.

You will be joining our small but highly experienced team, who are committed to making positive change by identifying and mitigating risk to allow Homes England to provide funding to developers tackling England’s housing gap.

Working with key stakeholders you will ensure efficient, consistent and effective risk review and challenge to a variety of lending propositions from £500k to £50m to help Homes England deliver on the ambitious objectives Government has set it to help address the Housing Crisis.

Job description

You'll be comfortable working across multiple workstreams and be able to use your stakeholder and project management skills to quickly adapt to a variety of projects and tasks. You’ll have a great knowledge base, but be keen to learn and deploy your existing expertise and knowledge in a variety of situations.

You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a team and wider housing delivery agency. As an ambitious professional you’ll understand how to manage colleagues who may have different perspectives and priorities to ours and be able to demonstrate you can work with them in a collaborative, constructive and inclusive way.

Person specification

  • Degree level qualification or broad ranging equivalent experience. Desirable to hold a post-graduate qualification/ professional qualification.
  • Able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of own area of specialism combined with a broad knowledge of risk and financial matters, honed from previous roles and prior experience.
  • Experience and familiarity of promoting sound and commercially focussed risk management principles and practices within a public/ private sector environment.
  • Able to solve problems and provide practical solutions and approaches to politically sensitive and complex issues and scenarios.
  • Experience in influencing and negotiating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders who may have conflicting agendas and priorities.
  • Able to concisely and clearly present complex information and scenarios to Senior Management within the Agency, and DLUHC and HMT in both written and verbal format.
  • Able to make strong and robust decisions under the pressure of short timescales and external and internal expectations.
  • Ability to work, negotiate, and deliver to tight deadlines, whilst ensuring that a high-quality output is delivered.
