Job summary

Do you enjoy building solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders? Are you comfortable working with data, from gathering and analysis through to design and presentation?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Policy Adviser - Buildings insurance and lending data to join our team at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and we'd love to hear from you!

We are looking for an enthusiastic and analytical Senior Policy Adviser to join the Levy, Insurance and Lending division (LILT) within the Remediation Portfolio. The Building Safety Programme was established immediately after the Grenfell Tower tragedy, in July 2017, to ensure the safety of high-rise buildings. The portfolio’s first priority was to remove ACM cladding, like that used on Grenfell, from high-rise buildings [18m+]. The scope has since been expanded to include non-ACM combustible cladding and other fire safety defects, and buildings between 11 and 18m. Government’s mission is clear: we must identify all at-risk buildings, increase the pace of remediation and better protect residents.

The Remediation Acceleration Plan from December 2024 and the July 2025 update outline our measures to drive this process. The £10bn remediation programme is one of the largest and most high-profile in government, with significant political and stakeholder interest. You will join the Financial Markets team, which leads on issues around insurance and lending for buildings with fire safety issues, as well as wider insurance policy that impacts multi-occupancy buildings. You will join the team at an exciting time where we are developing new policy options and delivering legislation to address high insurance costs for residents and unfairness in the leasehold insurance system. We are a supportive and collaborative team. We particularly welcome candidates from an ethnic minority background and other underrepresented groups to apply, as we work to continually improve our ability to represent the places and communities we support through our work.
