Job description
We are seeking an experienced and credible individual to play a pivotal role in shaping professional practice, standards and continuous improvement across Neighbourhood policing.
As a Senior Policy Manager, you will work at pace in a complex national environment, influencing change, supporting forces, and ensuring neighbourhood policing practice is evidence-based, consistent and effective.
This work directly supports the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee (NPG) and will help to drive up standards of service for the communities we serve.
Person specification
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing national policy, standards, guidance and Authorised Professional Practice (APP) for neighbourhood policing
- Providing credible advice and support to senior stakeholders across policing and partner organisations
- Translating research and evidence into practical, accessible guidance that drives improvement
- Leading peer support, national networks, workshops and improvement programmes
- Building and maintaining stakeholder relationships and representing the College at national groups and practitioner networks
- Driving continuous improvement, behavioural change and organisational learning
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
- Significant experience working and leading within a neighbourhood policing environment
- Credible subject matter expertise in neighbourhood policing with the ability to take an evidence-based approach to developing and influencing professional practice and guidance
- Experience operating at a strategic level, providing credible advice and making high-risk decisions
- Experience of stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influence at senior levels
- Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills

Anticipated interview dates: Week commencing 22nd June
An initial sift based on the lead Technical Skill “Evidence of evaluating and integrating research and analysis information from a variety of sources, coming to logical conclusions and communicating this effectively to non-specialists”, may be held if a large number of applications are received. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift or progressed straight to assessment/interview.
This role is available as a 2 year secondment opportunity to:
- serving police officers substantive in the rank of Chief Inspector, or those officers suitably qualified for temporary promotion in the rank of Inspector. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application.
- For people applying from force on promotion (substantive or eligible for temporary promotion) eligibility is dependent on you having passed NPPF Step 3 or Ready to commence WBA.
- Please note applicants applying from force must have approval for a secondment, without this you application will not progress beyond sift, even if you are successful.
