Job summary
Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the government’s immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. International and Returns Service Command (IRSC) is part of Immigration Enforcement (IE) and contributes to the IE mission of maximising returns of immigration offenders and Foreign National Offenders from the UK. This role is part of IRSC Operational Portfolio Team which provides a key project management function for a command of over 400 operational delivery staff located across the UK and abroad.
Job description
As Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing complex projects from inception to completion. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- Leading and managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Leading Business Case development to include the preparation, development, commissioning and updating of the business cases to justify the initiation and continuation of projects in terms of benefits, value for money and risk.
- Developing detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
- Coordinating and communicating with stakeholders, including operational leads, team members, commercial and finance colleagues and senior management, to ensure project alignment and transparency.
- Identifying and mitigating project risks and issues, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Monitoring project progress and performance, providing regular updates and reports to stakeholders.
- Fostering a collaborative and positive team environment, promoting continuous improvement and innovation.

Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. However, compressed hours are available.

Travel
There is an expectation that some travel to IRSC locations around the UK will be required as part of the role.

Essential Criteria
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Proven experience of leading and delivering medium to large-scale projects or programmes, with accountability for managing risks, overcoming delivery barriers, and realising intended benefits through effective change management.
- Resilient and adaptable, with strong organisational and prioritisation skills to manage competing demands across different areas of work simultaneously to required standards, meet deadlines, and maintain quality under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders through clear, confident, and structured communication of complex information and data.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data to inform decisions and support strategic delivery.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of leading Business Case development to include the preparation, development, commissioning and updating.
Qualifications
You are required to hold at least one of the following qualifications below at Practitioner level or relevant experience:• APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ)
• Prince 2 Practitioner
• Agile Project Management Practitioner
• Management of Portfolios (MOP)
• Management of Successful Programmes (MSP)
• Or equivalent qualifications/experience (Please describe how you meet this in your Personal Statement)

2. Sift – week commencing 20 April 2026
The sift will be held on the Personal Statement, CV and Behaviour Leadership, as listed in the advert.
Should a high volume of applications be received, an initial sift will be conducted on the CV and Personal Statement.
Candidates who pass the initial sift will then be progressed to a full sift which will consist of all the remaining elements submitted (Lead Behaviour).
Candidates who fail to meet the minimum pass score for the initial sift will not have their remaining submitted element scored and will only receive a sift score for that assessed at the initial sift.
3. Interview – week commencing 11 May 2026
If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviours (as listed in the job advert) and Strength based questions.
