Job description

The Department for Transport is recruiting a Senior Resilience Advisor to support delivery of the government’s Home Defence Programme. The role sits at the centre of national resilience and conflict planning, working across government and industry to ensure the transport sector can respond to major incidents and is prepared for any future conflict scenarios. You will work independently at pace, analysing risks, balancing competing priorities and shaping critical defence and resilience plans.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
- Delivering the transport operational plan to support Defence Strategic Base Outload planning.
- Supporting the delivery of dual civilian-military use of transport infrastructure.
- Supporting the delivery of all relevant DfT Home Defence response and recovery plans.
- Supporting the Department’s legal contribution to upcoming legislation.

Person specification
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Strong verbal and written communications skills, with experience delivering high quality briefings to a range of senior stakeholders.
- Experience developing policy, with the ability to work on complex issues and quickly develop an understanding of an area that you are not a technical expert in.
- Experience managing stakeholders and developing effective working relationships to deliver a project.
- Experience managing multiple priorities, working independently and working at pace to deliver effectively.
Additional Information
Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements
This is a full time only role, full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.
This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.
The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.
Occasional travel to other offices and external meetings may be required, which may involve overnight stays. There may be occasions where you will be required to travel internationally.

Stage 1: Sift
At sift, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:
