Job Description

Job Title: Senior SEND Casework Officer
Salary: £39,027 - £44,463 per annum
Grade: E
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 37 hours per week

Thurrock Council is looking for a passionate and highly motivated individual who is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Previous experience of working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families is essential, as will a strong working knowledge of current SEND related legislation and the SEND Code of Practice.

Experience and skills include:

  • Ensuring the local authority adheres to its policies, procedures and statutory responsibilities under the SEND legal framework.
  • Overseeing the statutory assessment and review process to ensure high quality education, health and care plans are created and that annual reviews are managed in line with statutory requirements.
  • Providing expert guidance, advice and support to parents, families, education providers, and colleagues on SEND matters.
  • Working with various professionals, including those in education, health and social care and partner agencies.
  • Delivering supervisory and leadership support to SEND EHCP Coordinators and junior colleagues, providing informal and formal supervision and support with managing their workloads and navigating local authority procedures.
  • Ensure that all casework is carried out to the highest standards and fully meets the local authority statutory functions in terms of quality and timescales.
  • To amend, check and quality assure education, health and care plans, ensuring that plans identify clear outcomes for children and young people.

DBS: Enhanced Level is required for this post.
