Job Description

Working in a hybrid style, based at home and in 5 City Square, Dundee, you will work full-time, 37 hours per week as a key member of the Council’s Children and Families Service Senior Leadership Team. The Children and Families Services comprises Early Learning and Childcare, Primary/Secondary Education, Educational Psychology, Children’s Social Work and Community Justice Social Work. We are a dynamic, forward-thinking and innovative service working in partnership with other key services and local communities, focused on supporting children, young people and families to thrive. The service is currently leading on a range of transformational initiatives designed to improve support whilst meeting all legislative requirements and operating in accordance with growing financial constraints. Requirements

​You will have a degree in Social Work, Dip SW, CQSW, CSS (with appropriate option).

Responsibilities

You will lead and manage all city-wide locality Children’s Social Work Services; learning and workforce development; and practice and performance improvement to ensure the delivery of support to children, young people and parents/carers in accordance with statutory requirements, Council policy, professional imperatives and the requirements of the SSSC, Care Inspectorate, HMI and other inspection agencies. You will deputise for the Head of Service where required.

The Individual

You should be a passionate and inspirational leader with a primary focus on providing excellent Social Work support and improving outcomes for children, young people and families, often in partnership with other key services. You will have experience of developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting on strategic, operational and practice improvement plans in collaboration with national and local partners, the workforce and local communities. You will have excellent risk assessment skills to inform strategic planning, prioritisation and resource allocation, alongside oversight of day-to-day Social Work practice and decision-making with vulnerable families. You must be able to motivate, support and challenge teams to meet legislative or regulatory requirements and maintain excellent practice in the context of growing budgetary constraints. You must have the ability to work across the Council to contribute towards corporate initiatives and objectives, including use of digital technology, enabling business continuity and supporting financial planning. You will be prepared to work hours according to operational needs and prepared to make and receive telephone calls at home along with maintain professional registration with the SSSC. This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
