This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and ambitious individual who has an interest in Sustainable Travel and to work within a large and multi-faceted team to drive forward the council's sustainable travel agenda.

This post will play a key role in actively managing subsidised local transport services, will use customer feedback and data analysis to inform decisions and service design, and work closely with transport providers to contribute to the overall delivery and improvement of local public transport provision around the county.

The work of the wider team includes the promotion of cycling, walking, car-sharing and public transport, the management of the council’s supported passenger transport network and the council’s extensive Public Rights of Way network.

About the Role

We are looking to recruit a Senior Sustainable Travel Officer at 37 hours per week to help manage and deliver the functions of Passenger Transport, Enhanced Partnership and Sustainable Travel projects.

This post will be part of a team of contract managers and will actively manage a portfolio of subsidised local bus service and demand responsive transport contracts.

Key aspects of the role will be tendering, awarding and monitoring passenger transport contracts and operational service performance as well as contributing to the process of developing and implementing local transport services and service improvements.

The duties of the post will include the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative transport usage data, preparing service reviews and reports, in addition to implementing solutions to resolve performance issues and customer queries.

The post holder will also be required to ensure service compliance in accordance with contract specifications, this would be achieved through the effective use of inspections and enforcement, and by creating and maintaining strong relationships with the transport providers.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Qualifications: Degree or equivalent relevant qualification Or Proven relevant experience in the areas below ;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of active and sustainable travel and transport, together with a customer-focused approach where the customer experience is central to the delivery of the service
  • Experience of developing and influencing successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners, such as schools, businesses, transport operators and communities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills including communicating at all levels and to a wide range of audiences effectively with understanding, tact, and diplomacy, whilst maintaining an objective, assertive and professional stance
  • Effective time, resource and project management skills, to be able to work in a team environment, to manage varied workloads and an ability to work to tight timescales and to agreed targets.
  • Excellent ICT skills, including a knowledge and understanding of Microsoft office programmes particularly within Microsoft Excel and use of bespoke databases and map-based programmes. In addition to strong numerical and analysis skills, with keen attention to detail, and an ability to work with large data sets, summarise information and prepare reports.
  • Experience of working in a procurement or contract management environment including negotiation with external providers or agencies.
