Introduction

Are you passionate about building relationships with young people where they are? in public spaces, on estates and in parks? Join Lewisham’s dynamic Youth Service team as a Senior Detached Youth worker, engage with young people where they are, and support them to access services and opportunities in the community.

What’s the role?

You and the team will be out in Lewisham engaging with young people, providing guidance and building trusted relationships. You will manage and inspire a team of Youth Workers and volunteers in face-to-face delivery, understanding and being responsive to young people's needs and interests. You will monitor and evaluate progress and be innovative in finding solutions and working with partners to maximise opportunities for young people.

What we’re looking for

You will have significant experience of working with young people from diverse backgrounds, in a variety of settings, including as a detached youth worker. You will enjoy the autonomy of detached work and understand the importance of the role in engaging with young people who might otherwise not have access to services and opportunities within the community.

You will have a strong understanding of safeguarding and be able to identify risk factors for and with young people and be able to support appropriately. You will work well in a team and be able to lead others, be flexible and committed to the role.

Location

The job is primarily based in Lewisham, face to face with young people, for administration we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.

Special conditions

  • Relevant Level Youth and Community work (JNC) qualification or equivalent is needed
  • Weekend working is required for this job
  • The job is subject to an enhanced DBS check

Salary

£42,912.00-£44,937.00 per annum (SO2) 23 hours pro rata

N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
