We hold a firm commitment to sustainable, long-term improvement. That means working closely with our partners across health, education, the voluntary sector, and the wider community. Together, we are creating the right conditions for vulnerable children and young people to thrive and live well. To support this, we have created new leadership roles, we are remodelling our teams and increasing strategic capacity at every level.

Following on from this and due to internal promotions, we are now recruiting for Service Managers.

Join us during this exciting time at Sefton Council as we continue our long-term commitment to children and families. We are currently seeking for strong, dynamic, visionary leaders who have the drive and commitment to support us on the ongoing journey to improve outcomes for children, young people and families through their ambitious, creative and solution focused can do approach.

We have five posts available which currently have responsibility for the following areas:

Service Manager – Safeguarding and Review

The post holder will be responsible operationally for the safeguarding unit and will report to the Head of Service. You will be responsible for Managing the Child Protection Team Manager, the Cared for Review Team Manager and the LADO, and the FIRO

You will need a robust understanding of children and young people’s whole journey, ensuring that they are protected from significant harm and their life chances are maximised. You will need to have the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with key partners and hold and maintain sound knowledge and understanding of all children’s legislation, particularly statutory guidance, policies, procedures and frameworks

Service Manager – Cared For and Care Experienced Children x2 – Posts attract a £10,000 p/a market supplement

We are recruiting to Service Managers for our Corporate Parenting service; one to lead and support our Care Experienced teams and a second for our Cared for Children teams.

Both services were rated Good in our recent ILACS therefore have a solid base of good practice to build on with a passionate and committed staff group.

Reporting to the Head of Service Corporate Parenting you will directly manage our Team Managers and work with colleagues from across a range of services to ensure we maintain our culture of innovation and creativity where good practice thrives and outcomes for young people remain at the top of our agenda.

Service Manager – Immediate Response – Post attracts a £10,000 p/a market supplement

We are looking to recruit a service manager to our Immediate Response Service which include CHAT, FAST, EDT and Assessment teams.

You will have the passion to ensure that children young people and families receive the right service and support at the right time. You will be the first contact for most families that need support, and you will ensure the values of sefton, and our compassionate approach are instilled at the very beginning. You will be imbedded in partnership working recognising that the needs and our ambitions of families can only be achieved by working together.

You will have strong skills and experiences of solid partnership working to ensure long term positive outcomes for children, Young People and their families

You will recognise that the family is the expert of their own solution and that all support and interventions are created and led by their voice.

Service Manager – Support and Protect - Post attracts a £10,000 p/a market supplement

We are looking to recruit a service manager to our Support and Protect service. This is an opportunity for a compassionate, child-centred and family-focused leader to join an effective service, delivering child protection and family help.

You must be someone who can support our continued development to improve the lives of children and families in Sefton.

The post-holder will be able to foster a culture true to Sefton’s values of keeping children and families where it is safe to do so and supporting families to move forward.

Reporting to the Head of Service the successful applicant will be responsible for supervising Team Managers and effectively managing resources to create the conditions in which good practice with children and families can thrive.

Our offer to you

We offer competitive salaries of £57,900 rising by seven increments to £66,703 (2025 pay rates)

We all know how important time away from the workplace is which is why we offer a generous annual leave entitlement of 28 days increasing to 33 days after 5 years continual service in addition to statutory bank holidays of 8 days.

As we embark on the children’s social care reforms, successful post-holders will be able to demonstrate an ambitious and collaborative approach to change, working together with children and families, practitioners and partners to coproduce services which respond to and meet need in our communities within Sefton.

If you are Social Work England registered and have a Social Work Degree or equivalent Social Work Qualification, with relevant experience, skills and knowledge we would love to hear from you.
