Starting Salary: £31,537 progressing to £34,434 per annum (pro rata for part time) – pay award pending

The postholder will be required to travel between various locations in Hertfordshire.

About the role

Hertfordshire County Council Services for Young People (HCC SfYP) is recruiting a Talent Mentor to deliver high-quality work and support for young people in Stevenage. The role will include:

  • Liaising with the school / career leader/guidance professional to get an overview of the young person’s history, support needs and aspirations.
  • Detailed assessment of the young person’s needs.
  • Development of an action plan with the young person outlining goals, actions and timelines; then regular review of progress / updating of the action plan as the young person progresses through the 4 steps.
  • Providing 1-to-1 dedicated support
  • Implementing strategies and supporting participants to take part in FE visits, participating in a mock assessment centre and encounters with an employer/employee or apprentice/training provider.
  • Supporting participants to develop strategies to overcome personal barriers to employability, addressing particular issues faced by the young person.
  • Liaising with other providers / partners within and beyond the project to identify suitable structured activity / re-engagement sessions, learning or employment opportunities. Also, to enable reasonable adjustments to be made
  • Liaising with the young person’s family members, carers and support, with the young person’s agreement, to enable them to contribute to maximising the young person’s potential.

About you

Essential:

  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Excellent organisation and administrative skills with good attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Able to understand the barriers that young people face
  • Ability to build rapport with young people and education settings

Desirable:

  • Good ICT skills
