Devon County Council is seeking a dedicated and skilled Social Care Assessor with British Sign Language (BSL) skills to join our Adult Sensory team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with Deaf individuals and people with hearing / sight loss, ensuring they receive person-centred support that promotes wellbeing, choice, and independence.
About the Role
As a Social Care Assessor, you will:
- Carry out strengths-based, person centred assessments of care and support needs.
- Develop and review support plans in line with the Care Act 2014.
- Work directly with Deaf adults, communicating effectively using British Sign Language.
- Support individuals to access services, community resources, and specialist support.
- Work collaboratively with families, carers, health professionals, and partner organisations.
- Promote safeguarding and support positive outcomes for vulnerable adults.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to service development.
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- Fluency in British Sign Language (minimum BSL Level 2 or equivalent, higher levels desirable).
- Experience of working within health, social care, community, or support services
- Knowledge of the needs and experiences of Deaf people and Deaf culture.
- Excellent assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- An understanding of person-centred approaches, safeguarding, and relevant social care legislation.
- The ability to work independently across the county of Devon while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team.

Salary range
- £31,525 - £34,811 per year
