Job summary

We’re looking for a social-first creative who lives and breathes social media — someone who gets their news and information from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and emerging platforms, understands the role of trends and creators in shaping culture, and knows what makes content resonate.

The ideal candidate will be confident and capable as a producer, whether that’s through experience building and managing their own channels or producing for organisations, and will bring creative instincts, editorial judgment and technical skills to every stage of content production.

You’ll help shape how government communicates with UK audiences in a way that’s timely, authentic and impact-driven, working on issues that matter and affect people’s lives. At MHCLG we are working to make sure everyone has a decent and stable place to call home, tackling homelessness, building the homes people need and making sure they are safe following the tragic lessons of Grenfell. We are giving more rights to renters and leaseholders, and giving people the power to shape and improve their communities.

You will be able to film social first content that feels native to each platform, capturing engaging footage quickly and effectively, and using performance insight to refine and elevate future content.

In this role you’ll also play a key part in shaping social media strategy, using audience insight and performance data to inform how we plan content, engage communities and iterate approaches. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across creative production and social media strategy to develop content plans rooted in analytics, platform trends and audience behaviour, ensuring our digital communications are relevant, effective and forward-thinking.

The post is based in London due to the business requirements of this role, including regular London-based shoots and the need for fast, in-person collaboration. Shoot days will count toward the 60% office‑based working requirement.

  • Ensure all content aligns with government communication objectives, brand guidelines, and accessibility standards.
  • Support senior staff in ensuring legal and compliance requirements are met, including contributor consent and usage/licensing agreements.

  • Stay up to date with social media trends, platform changes and emerging content formats to continually improve output.

Person specification

  • Proven experience producing and creating digital content for social media, including filming and editing.
  • Experience creating content for and publishing across major social media platforms.

  • Excellent writing skills, with experience producing concise, engaging scripts and social media copy.
  • Ability to identify, source and develop compelling stories or case studies for social media.
  • Proven ability to humanise complex or technical topics and present them in an engaging, accessible way.
  • Experience working collaboratively with creatives, stakeholders and external contributors.
  • Confidence analysing social media performance data and applying insights to improve content.
