At Athersley North Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their full potential. We value every pupil as an individual and are committed to providing a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where children can develop, learn and thrive.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and highly committed Specialist Learning Support Officer to join our team and work within our nurture provision, supporting pupils with the most significant and complex barriers to learning.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a real difference to children's lives. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and senior leaders to provide targeted support for pupils who require additional help to access learning, develop positive relationships and behaviours, build confidence and make progress.
The role will involve implementing agreed learning and support programmes, working with individuals and small groups, supporting pupils with additional needs and providing targeted provision for pupils who may not be accessing the full mainstream curriculum. The successful candidate will also contribute to assessment, monitoring progress, behaviour support and the development of appropriate strategies to help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
We are looking for someone who:
• Has experience of working successfully with children in a primary school or similar learning environment.
• Has experience of supporting pupils with additional needs and an understanding of the barriers that can affect children's learning, behaviour and engagement.
• Holds a relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent, alongside appropriate English and mathematics qualifications.
• Has the knowledge, skills and confidence to implement agreed learning activities and support programmes with individuals and groups of pupils.
• Can establish positive, productive and trusting relationships with children, including pupils who may present with significant additional needs or challenging behaviours.
• Is able to recognise and respond sensitively to individual pupil needs and promote inclusion, independence, self-esteem and positive behaviour.
• Can provide effective pastoral and emotional support to pupils and develop positive mentoring relationships.
• Has the ability to monitor and provide feedback on pupils' progress, achievement, behaviour and attendance.
• Is able to work effectively as part of a team and contribute positively to the wider work of the school.
• Is able to use initiative, work independently when appropriate and respond flexibly to the changing needs of pupils.
• Is resilient, enthusiastic, caring and committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for children.
• Has a commitment to equality, inclusion and ensuring that every child has access to appropriate opportunities to learn and develop.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a good understanding of child development and learning, including the barriers that can prevent pupils from making progress. They will be expected to work collaboratively with teachers, senior leaders, parents/carers and other professionals to ensure that pupils receive consistent and effective support.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to play an important role in supporting some of our pupils with the greatest levels of need. If you are passionate about inclusion, have high expectations for children and are able to combine warmth and compassion with consistency and appropriate boundaries, we would love to hear from you.
Visits to the school are warmly encouraged. We would be delighted to show prospective applicants our school and nurture provision and explain more about the role and the difference you could make to our pupils. Please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
Please note: the school reserves the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date.
