    Do you like writing or typing? Do you have experience of taking your own notes in education or work?

    We are looking for Specialist Notetakers (manual and electronic) to work within the ASSIST team. You'll provide notetaking support for students with hearing or vision loss mainly in the North of Staffordshire and Wolverhampton, in higher education institutions.

    Salary details

    Specialist Notetaker – manual £13.47 - £14.13 per hour

    Specialist Notetaker – electronic - £13.69 – £15.56 per hour

    (Depending on qualifications and experience)

    Hours vary depending on availability and demand - Zero Hours Contract with additional benefits. As Mondays and Fridays can be particularly difficult to cover we would be looking for people with availability where possible on these days.

    Main Responsibilities

    You will provide notetaking support for students/clients with hearing or vision loss mainly in the North of Staffordshire or Wolverhampton in higher education institutions.

    Duties include:

    • Production of manual or electronic notes in a format appropriate to the needs of the student/client.
    • Note taking within a variety of sessions and subject areas
    • Simplifying written information as needed
    • Some additional out of class support for students as needed, including but not limited to; help with locating research, submitting assignments, paperwork, document organisation, exam support, sighted guide – training will be provided.

    Students/clients are over 16 years of age and require note takers in a variety of educational subjects.

    Work in education settings is typically over 2 x twelve-week semesters:

    Universities: September/October – December & January – May approximately

    Colleges: September – December & January – July approximately

    The office base is Staffordshire Place 1, Stafford (Centre for mileage as agreed depending on your work location).

    The Ideal Candidate

    You'll need to:

    • be confident in use of written English; spelling and grammar,
    • be able to clearly write and/or type at speed
    • Flexible working is required due to student/client timetables

    Specialist subject knowledge is not essential. If you have no qualifications or experience, in-house sensory awareness and AIM Level 3 Notetaker training will be provided before working with students/clients directly, to ensure consistency and minimum standards are met.

    Training needs will be assessed prior to and during interview. Other support roles may be available dependent on qualifications, experience, and availability; therefore, applicants are encouraged to disclose all qualifications, either achieved or working towards in your application.
