Job summary

This post is a homeworking post or could be based at sites in either Ryton CV8 3EN, Durham DL15 8DS or, London E14 4PU. Hybrid working opportunities can also be discussed. Please note, travel will be required notably to NPCC offices London SW1H 0BL

National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls & Public Protection

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to join the National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls & Public Protection (NCVPP) which provides support to forces in tackling the threat of VAWG and PP and improving our services to victims. You will also work with academics, victim groups and across Government to support our ambition and to ensure our work reflects the lived experiences of diverse communities.

We are working to continually train and upskill our officers and staff with the specialist knowledge and expertise required to carry out their roles effectively. We also continue to develop programmes, expanding on existing best practice with a focus on perpetrators and preventing life-long harm to victims.

As a Staff Officer, you will support the NCVPP Director and Deputy Director to plan, implement and deliver the NCVPPs agreed strategic priorities and play a critical and role in enabling the NCVPP to drive national change across policing. This role offers variety, challenge, and the chance to be part of a national effort to drive meaningful, long-term change.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

On behalf of the Directors Office - liaising and coordinating with the wider NCVPP team and Executive, using insight to connect and link projects, manage correspondence, co-ordinate actions, facilitate strategic events, undertake research, monitor progress, collate responses to Public Inquiries and ensure deadlines are met.

Supporting the NCVPP’s work with external stakeholders by proactively building and maintaining networks of contacts across the offices of senior policing stakeholder contacts (NPCC, APCC, Home Office), drawing information together to improve understanding about issues and responses to queries

Champion the NCVPPs positive reputation and professional front door, representing the Director/Deputy Director at events and meetings where appropriate.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Experience of engaging and working successfully with a broad variety of stakeholders using a wide range of communications channels
  • Experience in working in front line policing or a wider knowledge of UK policing governance structures and environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, negotiate and build effective working relationships with and lead collaborative teams of internal and external senior stakeholders and staff to achieve timely results
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the issues facing policing nationally in terms of VAWG, Public Protection and Vulnerability

An initial sift based on the lead Technical Skill Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, negotiate and build effective working relationships with and lead collaborative teams of internal and external senior stakeholders and staff to achieve timely results’ may be held if a large number of applications are received. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift or progressed straight to assessment/interview.

This role is available until 31 March 2027 as a secondment opportunity to:

  • serving police officers substantive in the rank of Chief Inspector. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application.
