
Student Planning Officer
We are recruiting a Student Planning Officer at Caerphilly County Borough Council.
Working hours: 37 Hours per week
Contract Type: Fixed Term, 1 Year to commence August/September 2026 pending pre-employment checks
Location: Tredomen House, Ystrad Mynach
This position offers an excellent opportunity to become part of our team and provide support across the organisation.
We pay an attractive salary of Grade 4 £27,254 and offer access to training and development opportunities.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a student planning officer in the Planning Services Section of Caerphilly Council, on a 12 month fixed term basis starting in August 2026.
The postholder will initially be provided with the opportunity to gain development management experience at each stage of the process, including the validation of applications, and will be responsible for the management of a personal caseload of planning and/or enforcement cases, pre-application enquiries and any related appeals.
There may also be an opportunity to gain experience working on the Caerphilly CBC 2nd Replacement Local Development Plan as it progresses through to Deposit stage and to work alongside the Councils Placemaking and Heritage Officers on the delivery of key housing and town centre regeneration schemes.
This placement will, therefore, provide the successful postholder with the opportunity to gain valuable experience working in a busy Local Planning Authority and the necessary experience required for the RTPI’s Assessment of Professional Competence.
For the role, we ask that you have:
- Pursuing a recognised planning qualification where the course incorporates or requires a yearout placement as an integral component for qualification.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues to achieve shared objectives
- Ability to prioritise workload effectively and deliver work on targets.
