TACT Board Tenant Member (Paid role)

Use your lived experience to shape council housing across Winchester.

Winchester City Council is recruiting a Tenant Member to join the Tenants and Council Together (TACT) Board - the most senior tenant group influencing our housing policy, priorities, and performance. You don’t need prior board experience: we’ll provide the training and support so you can contribute confidently and make a real difference for residents.

What you’ll do

  • Prepare for and contribute to at least six in-person Board meetings a year, including a short pre-meet with fellow tenant members and an optional debrief.
  • Review reports, policies and performance data; ask constructive questions and represent tenant and leaseholder views.
  • Attend one quarterly Housing Improvement Workshop (themes include Safety & Quality, Neighbourhood & Community, Tenancy, and Transparency, Influence & Accountability) and bring insights back to the Board.
  • Champion equity, diversity and inclusion, follow our Code of Conduct, and respect confidentiality.

What we offer

  • £1,200 per year, paid quarterly, plus reasonable expenses.
  • Funded training and conferences so you can grow in the role.
  • Ongoing support from the Tenant Partnership Team and housing officers.
  • Term of office: 3 years, with the option to renew for a further 2 years (subject to satisfactory attendance and engagement).

Who we’re looking for

  • A current Winchester City Council tenant, leaseholder or shared owner.
  • Someone fair-minded, reliable, open to learning, and confident to speak up (we’ll support you if you’re new to this).
  • A collaborator who values different perspectives and wants to improve housing services for all residents. Printed papers and other support are available if helpful.

Our commitment to inclusion

We want the TACT Board to reflect the diversity of our communities. We actively encourage applications from underrepresented groups, including Black, Asian and minority ethnic tenants, LGBTQ+ tenants, disabled people, younger tenants, and those living in rural areas. We welcome requests for reasonable adjustments during the process and in the role.
