Teacher - Community Learning/Non-funded Programmes (Salaried), Adult ED Community Learning
Adult Education Service (BAES), the largest local authority adult education provider in England, is seeking inspiring and flexible sessional tutors to help deliver a ground-breaking £1 million Community Learning Growth Programme. This initiative is dedicated to supporting economically inactive adults across Birmingham into employment, further learning, volunteering, and civic participation, through hyper-local, high-impact and creatively designed learning experiences.
As we expand our curriculum, we are placing a powerful emphasis on creative media, digital fluency and future-facing skills, equipping adults not just to access work, but to thrive in a modern, connected economy.
This is your opportunity to help shape a new chapter in adult education — where community storytelling, digital confidence and creative expression drive real social and economic change.
About the role:
In your role as a salaried teacher, you will be central to the delivery of five bold intervention strands that tackle systemic barriers to learning and employment through creative and community-rooted learning models. You will work under the direction of Programme Managers and contribute to one or more of the following strands:
- First steps learning and pathways to Literacy and Numeracy courses
- ESOL & Vocational Learning for Employment
- Childcare & Social Enterprise
- Community Volunteering & Civic Leadership
- Cross-Community Media & Cultural Exchange
Across all strands, we are embedding digital capability, media literacy and creative communication skills as essential tools for confidence, voice and progression.
You will:
- Plan and deliver high-quality, learner-centred teaching and assessment in your subject area.
- Integrate core Essential Skills (the 7 Cs: communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, community awareness, computer literacy, and self-management).
- Contribute to inclusive learning environments that prioritise confidence, wellbeing, and progression.
- Collaborate with community navigators, peer mentors, and grassroots organisations to boost learner engagement.
- Adapt delivery to meet the diverse needs of under-served economically inactive learners.
What you will need:
Please upload an up-to-date CV and Supporting Statement via the attachments part of your application. The Supporting Statement should outline how you meet the criteria for the role through your personal qualities, skills and experience and include your motivation for applying to the post.
