Teaching Assistant Grade 4 (SEND)

Edleston Primary is a diverse one form entry school in Crewe. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced, positive and committed teaching assistant to join our happy and dynamic staff team, who can rise to the challenges of working with children with complex needs. The role involves providing support for a pupil with EHCPs. There may be times you are asked to work with other children in school. The successful candidate will have experience of working with primary children and have detailed knowledge and understanding of the primary national curriculum. They will also understand the relationship between child, key worker, teacher and parent and build strong relationships to achieve the best for every child.

You will be contracted to work 32.5hours per week with a half an hour lunch break. This post is initially for a year but has the potential to be extended.

We are looking for someone who:

  • has the skills and knowledge to support children with SEND
  • has experience in working 1:1/small within primary classroom settings
  • has an understanding and/or experience of de-escalation and engagement techniques to support challenging behaviour
  • is energetic, positive and have a good sense of humour
  • Can implement structured learning activities/ specific programmes for individuals and groups under the general supervision of the teacher
  • has experience supporting neuro diverse children
  • has a caring and compassionate nature
  • develops positive relationships with pupils to promote pupil progress and attainment
  • is prepared to support children with intimate care
  • establishes supportive and constructive relationships with pupils, parents and carers
  • has high expectations of themselves and of others, demonstrating professional conduct at all times and have the ability to contribute positively to an effective team
  • works well with external agencies to ensure personalised provision is effective

Essential Qualifications

NVQ level 2 or above qualification - appropriate to the post (or equivalent).

GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English Language

Desirable Qualifications

SENSORY TRAINING
SALT/WELCOMM

Positive handling training

Physiotherapy training

Essential Experience

Experience of working/caring with children with an EHCP or SEND on a one-to-one basis.

Experience of working with children with medical needs
Supporting children with developing reading/phonics and maths skills
Experience of supporting pupils with behaviour

Desirable Experience

Knowledge of classroom roles and responsibilities
First Aid/Paediatric First Aid Certificate
Administrative skills
Ability to make effective use of ICT

Experience of working with children with an EHCP

Ability to lead bespoke interventions to individuals and small groups
