    Your new school
    Percy Shurmer Academy is a large two-form entry primary academy who currently have 450 pupils aged from 3 to 11 which also include 39 children in the Nursery and 22 deaf pupils in our Deaf Learning Base (DLB). The school is led by an ambitious and dedicated Principal, Miss Duffy, she has established a strong and personable team and in 2023 were graded 'Outstanding' by Ofsted who recognised ''parents are overwhelmingly positive about the quality of education their children receive.'' We are now looking for an enthusiastic teaching assistant to provide 1:1 support to SEND children, creating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where all pupils feel valued.

    Your new role
    The school is committed to ensuring that all children achieve their very best academically but also have access to wide-ranging opportunities that encourage aspiration. We have camping trips, visits to the seaside, curriculum days, outdoor learning and much more. We are looking for a teaching assistant to provide tailored 1:1 support or small group work with pupils with EHCPs or additional needs within the classroom and during unstructured times. You will deliver structured small group interventions focused on communication, literacy, numeracy, or social skills. Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to implement individual learning plans and adapt resources. You will use strategies and tools (e.g. visual timetables, communication aids) to support engagement and independence and record observations and contribute to review meetings and target setting.

    What you'll need to succeed
    You will have experience in supporting children with SEND in an educational setting. A good understanding of a range of needs, including Deafness, ASD, speech and language difficulties, social communication needs, or SEMH. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
