Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.
The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.
The Post
As a Team Leader within Supported Living services, you will play a key operational role in delivering high‑quality, person‑centred support to adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism and behaviours that challenge. Working closely with the Team Manager, you will ensure services are safe, responsive, compliant and aligned with Brent Council’s commitment to personalisation and self‑directed support.
This is not a hybrid role. You will be required to work onsite across Supported Living locations, and the role includes shift work, ensuring appropriate management presence and continuity of support across operational hours.
You will oversee day‑to‑day practice across designated units, ensuring adequate staffing, effective supervision, and a caring environment where dignity, independence, choice and wellbeing are prioritised. You will help to plan and deliver a wide range of educational, vocational, employment and recreational programmes that promote independence and social inclusion, whilst ensuring that service users are safeguarded and supported safely and respectfully. You will maintain strong working relationships with families, carers, internal teams, external health and social care professionals and community organisations.
You will take delegated responsibility for compliance with CQC, Health & Safety, Environmental Health and other statutory requirements. This includes maintaining accurate records, preparing for inspections, managing risk assessments, ensuring confidentiality, and supporting safeguarding enquiries.
You will also support recruitment, induction, training and supervision of staff, ensuring performance is well‑managed and consistent with Brent Council’s policies and values and maintain financial and administrative systems, including petty cash, service‑user finances and performance reporting. Overall, you will contribute to ongoing service improvement, resource planning, partnership development, and identifying new approaches that help customers achieve meaningful personal outcomes.
The PersonYou are a confident and values driven leader with experience in Supported Living, day opportunities, residential care or similar regulated adult care environments. You understand what high quality support looks like and are committed to delivering a service that is safe, compassionate and consistently person centred.
You have strong knowledge of CQC requirements, safeguarding adults, risk management, health and safety, and relevant legislation. You are confident managing challenging situations, responding to concerns, and making sound, evidence based decisions.
As a people manager, you bring experience of supervising staff, conducting appraisals, supporting training and development, managing attendance and adhering to HR procedures. You can inspire Support Workers, promote positive practice and model the behaviour and standards expected within a high performing team.
You work collaboratively with health professionals, care managers, families and community partners, acting as an advocate for service users and for the values of Brent Council. You understand the importance of promoting independence, privacy, dignity and choice, ensuring individuals participate in meaningful activities and achieve their personal goals.
Resilient, organised and proactive, you are comfortable working flexibly, handling competing priorities, and maintaining accurate records in a fast paced environment. You bring a commitment to continuous improvement for both staff and service users, and a dedication to inclusive, culturally sensitive practice.
