Job description

We are hiring for the following roles:

Technical Skills Trainer – Human Intelligence:

CHIS- 1 x Police Secondee based at our Ryton-on-Dunsmore site

Online- 1 x Permanent – Homeworking available

Technical Skills and Investigations Trainer:

Wider Market Post- 1 x 23-month Fixed Term Contractor -– Homeworking

Core Delivery Post- 1 x Permanent -– Homeworking

These roles work in partnership to provide or enable support to those working in policing, through setting standards, sharing knowledge and good practice and supporting professional development. Contribute to improving knowledge and practice within a College professional community. Offer practical support for policing in line with the College strategies and business plan.

​​Responsible for the day-to-day delivery of training programmes, supervising students and, where appropriate, associate trainers to ensure that learning objectives are met to course specifications and agreed quality standards. Work with other College departments to provide subject matter expertise in the formulation of evidence-based policing standards and the design and development of learning products.

Person specification

In addition to the essential criteria outlined in the job description, the following additional criteria will be required for:

Technical Skills Human Intelligence Trainer - CHIS:

  • successful attendance on a nationally approved Controlling of Covert Human Intelligence Source - CHIS Handlers and / or Controllers course.
  • extensive recent experience in covert investigations specifically relating to the handling and / or Controlling CHIS
  • Sound understanding of legislation relating to covert operations disciplines.
  • Qualified level 4 Trainer (or willing to achieve such in 6 months).

Technical Skills – Human Intelligence Trainer – Online

  • extensive knowledge and experience in the field of online Human Intelligence with recent practical experience
  • experience and knowledge of physical Human Intelligence policing is also desirable
  • sound understanding of legislation relation to covert operations disciplines
  • qualified level 4 trainer (or willing to achieve such in 6 months)

Technical Skills – Investigation Trainer (both roles)

  • Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) Level 2 accreditation
  • Knowledge and understanding of PIP process with specialism of Initial Crime Investigators Development Programme (ICIDP)/PIP2 and of PIP Level 3 accreditation process
  • Proficient in investigating serious and complex crimes

The above roles are offered as an opportunity to:

  • colleagues employed directly by the College or the Civil Service. Please note you will be required to obtain the written support of your line manager prior to submitting your application.
  • serving police officers substantive in the rank of Constable/Sergeant. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application.
  • serving police staff at the equivalent rank of Constable/Sergeant who have their chief officer's approval. Chief Officer’s approval must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC. Approval for a secondment must accompany an application.

For the fixed term contract roles:

Whilst this fixed term contract is offered on the understanding that it will only last as long as the stated contract length, there could be a possibility that it could be extended or made permanent should circumstances allow.

Internal College applicants who are at risk of redundancy or in need of redeployment and pass the recruitment process, will be given priority over other applicants.

An initial sift based on the personal statement may be held if a large number of applications are received. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift or progressed straight to assessment/interview.
