    Casual Technician – Fire (NMTC)

    We are looking for a proactive and safety focused Casual Technician in Fire to join our National Maritime training team. This is a hands-on role supporting the delivery of maritime fire training courses, ensuring all practical sessions run safely, smoothly, and effectively. As a key member of the team, you will play an essential part in preparing training environments, supporting instructors during demonstrations, and maintaining high safety standards throughout all activities.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Act as a safety observer during practical fire training exercises, ensuring the wellbeing of staff and students at all times
    • Support lecturers with demonstrations and communicate effectively with both staff and learners
    • Escort students through the training module wearing breathing apparatus during live fire exercises and assess their abilities
    • Prepare the fireground for training, including setting up hoses, fire extinguishers, and controlled fire materials
    • Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of training equipment and facilities
    • Contribute to and uphold safe working practices, including involvement in risk assessments
    • Clean and maintain equipment used in practical sessions
    • Support general site maintenance within your area of expertise
    • Comply with required IT systems and standards for the role

    The Role:

    Where you’ll work: The role is based at North Kent College’s Gravesend campus. The nature of the work will require travel to any of the College sites as appropriate including Thameside.

    Your hours: As and when required – no guaranteed hours (Zero-hour contract).

    Your pay: £17.59 per hour

    Your employment: Fixed Term Contract to 31 August 2026
