Why this role is exciting?

This is key role in the Technology Senior Management Team and influential across the Technology function. As Technology Controls & Commercial Director, you will also work alongside the Supply Chain ‘Hub’ ensuring that our group-wide supply chain and commercial / contract activity is collaborative, efficient and prepared for the future.

You will lead the centralised commercial, financial and contract governance functions for Technology. You will support multimillion pound commercial, supply chain, and financial activities, ensuring that our Technology investment is commercially sound, compliant, and aligned with organisational priorities.

This is a pivotal leadership role shaping the future of Technology, driving financial planning (including LTFP), enabling Transformation & Change, and ensuring excellence in procurement, commercial strategy, and oversight of Technology Keep the Lights On and Run The Business Projects.

Why we need you?

L&Q is transforming at pace. We need a director who can bring strong commercial discipline, data driven financial planning, and high quality governance to ensure Technology remains a strategic enabler for the entire organisation. Your leadership will help us optimise cost, strengthen supplier performance, and ensure our investment decisions are robust, sustainable, and aligned to corporate objectives.

Who you’ll lead and work with?

You will lead a multidisciplinary function (4 direct reports, 20–30 indirect) across Technology Finance, Technology Projects, Commercial, Contract Management and Category Management. You’ll collaborate closely with the Supply Chain Hub (including Property & Investment Spoke), Transformation, Finance, Strategy & Performance, Planning & Portfolio, and wider Corporate Services Teams.

If you’re a strategic leader with a passion for driving value, performance and collaboration, we’d love to hear from you!

If this sounds like you, we would love for you to apply!

Your impact in the role:

What you’ll be doing?

  • Lead the entire Technology Controls & Commercial function.
  • Lead category management and commercial governance for Corporate Services supply chain needs.
  • Drive cost optimisation and oversee Opex, Capex and long-term financial planning.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal governance frameworks.
  • You’ll oversee supplier performance, contract delivery, and commercial value across Corporate Services. Using effective procurement solutions you’ll balance the need for compliance with strategic risk appetite.
  • Act as strategic financial partner to Transformation & Change, codeveloping business cases, portfolio financial modelling, and downstream budget integration.
  • Oversee Technology PMO, ensuring RTB and portfolio planning meet governance requirements.

How you’ll help in achieving L&Q’s goals?

  • Strategic Commercial Leadership – By delivering the commercial strategy for Corporate Services this role will ensure supplier relationships, contracts and procurement activities are aligned with L&Q Strategy. By designing metrics and performance indicators the Director will also ensure that commercial activities across corporate services are measurable and contributes to L&Qs future success.
  • Value for money and budget control – With an oversight/influence of an est. £300m in pipeline spend across Corporate Services the Commercial Director (Corporate Services) will ensure that every pound spent delivers maximum value for L&Q. Through both analysis of spend and close collaboration with the Supply Chain Hub, the role will identify efficiency savings, reduction in wasteful spend, and build on the economies of scale that L&Q releases.
  • Supplier Performance and Risk Management – Through close monitoring of supplier performance and ensuring contractual obligations are enforced where necessary the Commercial Director (Corporate Services) will help in mitigating risks resulting from supplier performance.

What you'll bring:

  • Senior level commercial and financial leadership, with experience overseeing large Technology Opex/Capex budgets, long-term financial planning (LTFP), investment appraisal, and cost optimisation across complex portfolios.
