
Temporary Accommodation Officer

Redditch Borough Council is looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Temporary Accommodation Officer to suport a busy Temporary Accommodation service.
This is a key frontline role providing safe, suitable temporary accommodation across the borough for households experiencing homelessness and acts a key link between the residents and homeless officers
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out regular visits to temporary accommodation properties to assess condition, occupancy, and compliance
- Ensure properties meet health & safety standards through regular inspections
- Identify maintenance issues, disrepair, and safeguarding concerns, escalating where necessary
- Manage occupation charge accounts and take action as required
- Support placements by verifying suitability of accommodation for households
- Maintain accurate records of visits, inspections, and follow-up actions and meet performance targets
- Support the team leader and homelessness team with placement decisions
- Support vulnerable households, referring to appropriate statutory and voluntary services where needed
- Monitor occupancy levels and report unauthorised use or breaches of agreement
- Work collaboratively with internal and external agencies
- Assist with move-on planning and reducing reliance on temporary accommodation
Due to the operational demands of the service this post is predominantly field based
Skills & Experience
- Experience in temporary accommodation, tenancy management, or a housing related field (essential)
- Confidently apply and interpret homelessness legislation and temporary accommodation duties (essential)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to deal confidently with vulnerable clients and challenging situations
- Good attention to detail and accurate record keeping
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage a field-based role effectively
- Full UK driving licence (or ability to travel between properties)
